I think that portrait photography is one of the most challenging forms of photography mostly because a photo that appears natural and show the subject’s personality takes patience and practice.
Portrait (photography or painting)is only about people. Think about the personality of your model and try to capture that in your images. Think that you write a story with your images about the person in it.
Avoid the mistake made by people that they are afraid to close enough to their subjects. Get closer. Like in any relation, you need to have a close intimacy with someone to really understand him or her.
Try natural light, remember that if there is light, you can photograph, and for a portrait shadows are the essence.
